Book Selection Tips:

  1. Browse the genre displays and fiction shelves @ North.
  2. Ask a family member, teacher, librarian, bookseller, or friend for a recommendation.
  3. Browse book stores and local libraries.
  4. Look at lists:

    • Award winners
    • Classics (Penguin Classics, Oxford World's Classics and Modern Library catalogues)
    • Book clubs
    • Summer reading
  5. Look for titles written by a favorite author.
  6. Interested?
    • Look at front and back cover
    • Read reviews
    • Read excerpts
    • Inside of book jacket
    • The page 69 test



Search Library Catalogs:

  • WCSD Library Catalog
    • Login using your WITS username and password.
    • Search by:
      • Keyword
      • Title
      • Author
      • Subject
        • Search genres such as Historical Fiction.
        • Look for subject headings from books you read and enjoyed.
    • Read reviews written by other students.
    • Click on image for editorial reviews and excerpts.

  • ProQuest
    • Ask Mrs. G for a Username and Password. ----- To locate book reviews, conduct an "Advanced" search. Search for the author and/or title in the "Citation and abstract fields." In a separate text box, use the pull down menu to select "Document type." Click on "Browse document types" and select "Book review." Limit results to "Full text documents only." Click on the "Search" button)
  • Novelist Plus
    • From the Buffalo & Erie County Library's Research Section, click on Research Databases, enter your library card number, and scroll down and click on Novelist Plus.
